Transcript Partial transcript

Machine transcription of this recording. The words are the recognizer's, except where a passage is marked as corrected or machine re-recognized; most have not been checked against the audio, so words, numbers and names can be misheard. It describes what was said. It cannot establish who voted how, an amount or an outcome. A time links to its passage, and “Copy link” copies that link. “▶ Play” opens the recording at that moment, on YouTube; on this page it moves the player above the transcript.

Speakers were separated by voice. A plain name rests on evidence tied to that voice; “provisional” is a name from an earlier text-only pass and is not verified; “Speaker N” is an unidentified voice.

Hi everyone, I am Colonel Robert Harvey, US Air Force Retired, and I am honored to be part of the City of Cocoa's 15th Annual Memorial Day Tribute, a long honored tradition here at the City that gives the opportunity to remember and give thanks to all the men and women and their families who served and sacrificed so that we may live in freedom. Today's ceremony will be a bit different for us as we honor virtually and are not able to meet in person like we typically do. We are going to begin today's ceremony with the raising of the flag by the Cocoa Police Department Honor Guard and the singing of the National Anthem by Leroy Darby. Pastor Carlos Jones of Emmons Memorial Church of God by Faith in Cocoa will lead us in both the invocation and benediction. Cocoa Mayor Jake Williams, Jr. will give opening remarks which will lead us to our two special guest speakers for today's tribute. Retired Marine Colonel, former NASA astronaut and Director of the John F. Kennedy Space

Marine Master Mariner, Captain Ed Laney. Mr. Darby will then be back to give us a beautiful rendition of God Bless the USA. From our 2017 Memorial Day ceremony, Captain Ed Laney, with the assistance of retired Sergeant Major Craig Patel, who has since passed, and former U.S. Air Force Sergeant Alan Hendry, will then perform a traditional flag folding demonstration and show us what each of the folds of the flag represent. Brevard County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard will demonstrate a traditional 21-gun salute. And finally, City of Cocoa Fire Chief, Jonathan Lamb, will close the ceremony with the playing of taps.
